Education

“Workshops and residencies play an important part in Gecko's ongoing development as a company - they affirm our style and our process of making work. Education projects focus the company on it's central ideas of performance and play, particularly the emotional physicality of performance. We are able to refine our working methodologies. Occasionally we test out images and ideas in workshops which we hope will surface in future work.” Amit Lahav

Feedback from a recent project with the Lyric Theatre Young Company Working with Gecko has been an extraordinary experience that has highlighted their unique skill and talent for working with young people, harnessing them as an ensemble and helping them to realize their potential. The company created an outstanding piece of work that has enabled Lyric Young Company members to feel like professional artists whilst as the same time always holding their pastoral needs discreetly at the fore. Here is an extract from a letter we received from the entire company this week:

“Words cannot express how fortunate we feel to have worked with Gecko. Physical theatre is something none of the cast had really studied in detail before but Amit and Helen have left us feeling blown away and so inspired. Their passion, dedication and creativity for their work has really driven us to perform to the best of our abilities, and shown us that a story does not necessarily need to be told in the form of a narrative, but can be equally expressive through body language, movement and music to create this original and unique breed of theatre.”

I cannot recommend Gecko highly enough. Their ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural, mixed ability group and at the same time produce a piece of work of such unrivaled quality should not be underestimated.
