Artists’ Residencies in Care Homes in Essex

We are partnered with Magic Me, the UK’s leading inter-generational arts charity, to take part in their Artists’ Residencies in Care Homes project.

We’ve been paired with Lime Court, an Exelcare UK care home in Essex, to deliver a Gecko residency with the aim of challenging the public’s perception of what ‘old people’ living in care homes want, and demonstrating to staff and management the way in which arts can be beneficial to their residents. The project seeks to create something new with the care home residents as co-creators and collaborators rather than simply participants or audience.

The project spans four years, beginning in autumn 2019 with research and development led by Associate Director, Helen Baggett. Also taking part in the project are Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Fevered Sleep and curious directive, who will each be paired with an Exelcare UK care home in Essex.

The project is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
