Autumn Variations Music Video Submission
Thank you for taking the time to check out our work, we would love the opportunity to work on one of the 14 videos for Ed’s new album.
We are an internationally-acclaimed physical theatre company based in Ipswich who make highly visual and expressive work for stage and screen. We work with extraordinary performers from all over the world and can imagine creating something very unique for Ed.
We have been based in Ipswich for almost two decades and will soon be building a Creation Space to support the making of our work, provide extraordinary facilities for our community and attract collaborations with international artists from the dance, theatre and film world.
You can read more about us here.
We believe that an Ed Sheeran and Gecko collaboration would be a perfect fit due to the Suffolk/Ipswich connection, but also an exciting creative endeavour to bring our distinctive creative style to Ed’s beautifully expressive music.
Our Work
The Chemical Brothers
Collaborating with directors Adam Smith and Marcus Lyall (@smithandlyall), Amit Lahav was invited to work with multi-award winning, ground-breaking duo The Chemical Brothers on imagery for their 2018/19 world tours, and their Glastonbury 2019 set.
Since then, Amit and Gecko have worked alongside Smith and Lyall to create visuals for The Chemical Brothers’ music videos and live shows, including for their recent release, No Reason, which was choreographed by Amit and featured the Gecko Ensemble.
The Time Of Your Life
The Time of Your Life was a 30-minute performance by Gecko created specially for LIVE FROM TELEVISION CENTRE, a live broadcast that aired on BBC Four on Sunday 15th November 2015. The programme showcased independent theatre companies and makers based in the UK.
Amit has an early idea for Ed’s music video about theatrical scenes and worlds that emerge and disappear as the camera tracks Ed walking through his life (or a part of his life). The Gecko ensemble would animate the props/furniture and characters etc. A section in The Time of Your Life illustrates what Amit is thinking…(timestamp: 08.50)
Institute Film
In collaboration with Illuminations, The Space and BBC, Gecko presented its debut feature film Institute, an intimate, funny and moving exploration of what it means to care.
Based on our internationally acclaimed stage production and drawing on our reputation for generating unique worlds, intoxicatingly beautiful scenes and breath-taking choreography, Institute is a visually captivating and poetic dissection of the way we nurture and care for ourselves and each other.
Our Work On Stage
Gecko is perhaps best known for our work on stage. Spanning 22 years, we have created 8 critically acclaimed shows, 2 Associate Shows and 2 films. We are currently touring our eighth stage production Kin, commissioned by the National Theatre, exploring themes of racism, family, migration, and home.
Our work has graced some of the largest and most culturally significant stages in the UK and beyond, and our latest show Kin will open on the main stage of the National Theatre in January 2024.
Thank you for your consideration, we would be very excited to work with you on this fantastic project.
