Ensemble Auditions

Like all theatre companies, Gecko has been badly affected by the pandemic, but we feel incredibly fortunate to have received support to be able to return to rehearsals to begin development on our new show and remount our existing production The Wedding for touring this autumn.

A number of changes in our performing ensemble has created the opportunity for us to invite up to three new performers to join our company as a performer in The Wedding, a devising performer on our new show, or both. Gecko pays £650/week (not including holiday) plus subsistence, accommodation and travel.

Auditions will be in the form of a 3 day residency with our artistic director Amit Lahav in our home town of Ipswich on Monday 22-Wednesday 24 November 2021. Auditionees will be paid £100/day for their time as well as receiving per diems of £25.80/day (£18.20 where breakfast is provided). Travel and accommodation will be provided, in addition to any Covid testing costs for international auditionees. Please note, we are running an artist residency from 29 November-3 December so may be able to offer auditionees a free place on the residency if you are not available for the 22-24 November. Please make clear if you are only available in w/c 29 November in your application.

We are excited to return to touring this autumn and encourage all applications to see The Wedding on tour if possible, especially if you have not seen the company’s work before. Information on tour dates and how to book can be found here.

If invited to join the ensemble for The Wedding, successful auditionees would be required to learn the role and perform in UK performances in early February 2022 with future touring dates to be confirmed (UK and international).

If invited to join the ensemble for the new show, successful auditionees would be required for 2 weeks of choreographic rehearsals in January 2022 (subject to funding), 2 weeks of rehearsals in May TBC, 4 weeks of rehearsals in June/July 2022 and then a production period from September 2022 leading to premiere and touring in October-December 2022, with further touring including the National Theatre, in 2023.

We are interested in applicants from all age brackets who have at least 5 years professional experience in physical performance. Gecko is an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to working towards a more diverse and inclusive cultural sector. Our recruitment process is open to all, and we are particularly keen to receive applications from ethnically diverse candidates and/or those from a lower socio-economic background.

To apply, please complete this online application form by 10am on Friday 15 October 2021 (includes uploading a CV, photo and short example of performance).

We will review applications on an ongoing basis and will longlist according to relevant experience. Longlisted applicants will be asked to complete a video audition task by 10am on Friday 22 October (earlier submissions are greatly appreciated).

We will confirm our invitation to audition by Friday 29 October.

We anticipate a high volume of applications. While we hope to respond to all applicants, if you have not heard back from us by Monday 1 November, we are afraid we will not be pursuing your application at this time.
