Three months on, we wanted to reflect on our time at the National Theatre and the wrap-around engagement work that took place alongside our run of Kin.

Gecko’s Recommendations For This Year’s Edinburgh Fringe
As it’s the 20-year anniversary of our debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, we’re reflecting on this year’s programme and all of the brilliant work that companies and creatives are bringing to the city. Edinburgh Fringe was critical to our development as a company and we were even taking shows there as late as 2017, so we know how vital to the arts in the UK (and indeed the world) the festival is.

Announcing Kin at the National Theatre
We are thrilled to announce the run of our new show, Kin at the National Theatre in January 2024. Kin will open at the Lyttleton Theatre from January 12-27 following our UK tour.
We’re Recruiting a New Producer!
We are seeking an outstanding, driven and experienced Producer to join us at a pivotal time for the company as we tour our latest theatre production, Kin; make our debut with Kin at the National Theatre in January 2024; and develop and tour new and existing productions nationally and internationally. You will play a significant role in ensuring Kin’s touring success, working with the Artistic Director to manage the continued development of the show as it tours, bringing our work to new and exciting audiences.
Capturing Our Work
It's extremely important to capture as much of our work as we can, especially due to the way that Amit and our devising performers create our shows. At the end of an R&D or a residency, we usually have roughly 20/25 minutes of material. This material will be performed, and we'll film it. In the periods between our time in the studio, Amit will then go away with the recording and pick the work apart before the next R&D or residency where often 90% of the material has been scrapped.
Welcoming Our New Board Members
Today we say a fond farewell to two of our board members, Giles Kerkham and Jeanette Siddall CBE who are moving on from Gecko after working tirelessly to support us for many years. Their contribution to the company has been immeasurable and we wish them well in their future ventures!
As Giles and Jeanette exit stage right, we welcome two exciting new board members to the team, Amy Vaughan and Helen Lannaghan.
International Women’s Day: Celebrating Women in Backstage/Technical Theatre Roles
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, we wanted to highlight and celebrate women working in backstage & technical roles in theatre. So, while on tour with our new show Kin in Newcastle, we spoke to our Company Stage Managers Alyssa Watts and Leah Butterworth, our Sound Operator Sharon Tsang and our Lighting Associate Lucy Adams and asked them each a series of questions about their roles, their experience in the industry and what advice they’d give to someone starting out.
Are you our next Producing Assistant (Creative Engagement) or Fundraising and Development Manager?
We’re excited to be recruiting for two new positions to join our core team, a Producing Assistant (Creative Engagement) and a Fundraising and Development Manager (0.5 FTE).

Reflecting on the premiere of Kin and looking ahead to Warwick Arts Centre
It’s been a long time coming, but our brand-new show Kin has finally made its premiere at HOME Manchester. Some of the team have been working on this production since 2017, but it’s been during the last three years where the show has truly to come together through several intense periods of creation and R&D (despite the pandemic’s best efforts to thwart us!).
Still: Our Brand-New Film!
Still was created in May 2022. Inspired by physical interactions through our previous workshops and R&D phase, and their personal stories elicited in one to one conversations, we decided to create a beautiful, high quality film to celebrate the amazing residents of Lime Court through Gecko’s unique style and visuals.
