Gecko awarded grant from Government's Culture Recovery Fund

Gecko is delighted to announce a grant of £161,650 from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund, allowing us to continue development of our new show.

This award will allow Gecko to plan for recovery as we transition back to normality in the coming months, with the grant allowing us to continue the next six weeks of research and development (R&D) for our new show, building on the work that was created during the first phase of rehearsals at the end of 2020. The next phase will bring our devising performers, creative and technical team back together in our hometown of Ipswich as we further explore the themes of the show, create movement and choreography, and develop set and lighting designs.

Artistic Director, Amit Lahav, said:

“This Culture Recovery Fund grant is an essential step in our journey out of the pandemic and will enable us to jump straight back into our creative process and continue to make our new show. The significance of this for our freelance performers, creatives and technical team is enormous - it breathes life into those fundamental Gecko relationships at such an important moment in time. Our shows are the heart of our organisation, everything flows from that core element, so it can’t be understated how much we appreciate the support we have received, enabling us to continue to make this piece of work.”

It has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone in the cultural sector and we are immensely grateful for the support we have received and continue to receive from all over. As one of over 2,500 venues, museums, artistic companies and cultural organisations who have been awarded a grant today, it is incredibly exciting to think that our sector will be re-opening very soon, which will bring much needed work to our amazing freelance community and a chance for us all to share our work with audiences again. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again very soon!

There is much more excitement to come, so keep an eye on our social media and sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date with all things Gecko.
